Oksana Shachko is a woman, an activist and an artist. As a teenager, her fascination with religious painting led her to seriously consider entering a convent, but in the end she used her talent to create and promote the Femen movement. Between a fiery need to create and a deeply-rooted will to change the world, she co-founded the famous group of women activists, which has led her from her native Ukraine to the four corners of Europe. With the documentary I am Femen, Swiss director Alain Margot paints the portrait of a bewitching and many-faceted persona, while also revealing the stories of the brave young women who have fought for freedom of speech and democracy.
Alain Margot was born in 1959 in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland and studied at the Lausanne Fine Arts School. In 1998 Margot founded Mellina Films, his own production company, and has since worked as cinematographer and director of features, documentaries, music videos and reports.
