Return to Switzerland

The coronavirus is a worldwide pandemic. The Federal Council therefore advises against non-urgent travel abroad until further notice and calls on or recommends Swiss tourists abroad to return to Switzerland. The longer they wait to return, the more difficult it will be for them to do so because many countries have entry restrictions and airlines are reducing their services. The regulations vary from one country to another and are constantly changing.

Kindly be informed that Ethiopian Air continues to operate flights to Addis Ababa and onwards to Europe. At this point in time, flights for the following dates are scheduled:

 27, 29 & 30 March and 01, 03, 04, 05, 06 April

However, be aware that these may be cancelled anytime due to the Covid-19 situation.

Also, persons interested in booking a flight to Lisbon with TAP before the announced resumption of their flights on 20 April 2020 can register on the TAP Website. Depending on the number of passengers and possibilities to negotiate landing rights, they may offer one or more flights.

Swiss who make use of this option will find very reduced onward flights to Switzerland from Lisbon.

The Migration Office communicated the following to the Swiss Embassy:

Tourists and short term resident must avoid being in an illegal status in Mozambique.

Before the expiry of the visa, it is possible to send a written request for a visa extension, stating the reasons (COVID-19, cancellation of flights…), relevant information e.g. visa number, date and port of entry, passport copy must be attached, as well as quarantine medical documentation, if received when entering Mozambique.

Each request will be examined individually.

The Embassy in Maputo can assist you in transmitting the documents, if necessary.
