Documentation to submit with a national visa application
Which documents should I submit with a national visa application?
The application will be forwarded to the competent cantonal authorities in Switzerland for a decision. The Embassy of Switzerland can only issue the visa after approval by the competent authorities. The total processing time is approximately 8-12 weeks. This time is an approximation only and may vary considerably depending on the canton responsible and the elements of the application.
The Embassy does not provide information during the procedure. Therefore, please contact the cantonal migration authority responsible for your place of residence:
Long term visas are generally linked to a specific purpose (e.g. study, work, family reunion) and entitle the holder to remain in Switzerland for an extended period of time.
To set up an appointment, please contact VFS Global through their website or call-center.

Applications for students or family members will be registered and then sent to the competent cantonal Migration office in Switzerland. The decision is taken in Switzerland. Processing time is approx. 8 – 12 weeks. The Embassy of Switzerland cannot be held responsible for any delay or if the visa is refused.
