Swiss experience now in Karakalpakistan

The Cooperation Agreement between UNDP in Uzbekistan and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, represented by the Embassy of Switzerland in Uzbekistan, was signed on February 10, 2017 for implementation of water project within the framework of the new UN Joint Programme “Building the resilience of communities affected by the Aral Sea disaster through the Multi-partner Human Security Fund for the Aral Sea”.

The Agreement is aiming at the mutual activities in Karakalpakstan region, transferring Swiss expertise and knowledge in the water sector. Issues of livelihood and governance have always been an integral part of all activities of the Swiss government, in particular within the field of water supply and management. The activities planned for this cooperation are most relevant and in line with the SDC’s priorities in the region, aiming to ensure efficient management of water resources in the targeted districts. Specifically, this will cover: improved infrastructure and capacity building in the sectors of irrigation and drinking water supply, capitalising on the Swiss experience and expertise acquired over the years in the country.
