Bundespräsident Hans-Rudolf Merz hat heute in Bern den österreichischen Bundeskanzler Werner Faymann zu einem Arbeitsbesuch empfangen. An den Gesprächen nahmen auch Vizepräsidentin Doris Leuthard und Bundesrätin Micheline Calmy-Rey teil. Die Delegationen bekräftigten die vielseitigen und ausgezeichneten Beziehungen zwischen Österreich und der Schweiz.

Das Eidgenössische Departement für auswärtige Angelegenheiten bedauert die Eskalation der Gewalt in Gaza. Es fordert das sofortige Ende der Feindseligkeiten. Damit das Leid der Zivilbevölkerung gemildert und der Zugang für die humanitäre Hilfe garantiert werden kann, fordert das EDA, dass die Übergänge nach Gaza erneut und anhaltend geöffnet werden.

On April 1, 2002, the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) will apply guidelines regarding
the homologation of construction elements and safety installations as well as the
homologation of rail vehicles. This measure supports the implementation of technical
homologations in the railway sector.

A special "EURO 2008 visa" can be applied for for the duration of the 2008 European Championship, which will be valid both for Austria and Switzerland. As of today, the Austrian Foreign and Interior Ministries as well as the Swiss Federal Office for Migration will be providing information on the entry options for the EURO 2008 on their websites as a service for visitors to the European Championship.
