The EU, its Member States and Switzerland continue to call on the Singaporean authorities to adopt a moratorium on executions.Whilst the EU and Switzerland do not refute the seriousness of the crime, they hold a principled position against the death penalty and are opposed to the use of capital punishment under any circumstances. The death penalty has not been shown in any way to act as a deterrent to crime. Furthermore, any errors - inevitable in any legal system - are irreversible. The EU and Switzerland will continue in their pursuit of the abolition of the death penalty worldwide. The EU and Switzerland join all of those who have asked for a review of Singapore's current policy on the death penalty.

On the occasion of the celebration of DADA art movement’s 100th anniversary, the Embassy of Switzerland is proud to support Zurich based Cabaret Voltaire’s project DADA on Tour in Singapore. After having travelled to New York, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, Kochi and Switzerland, the mobile museum will be coming to Singapore. Housed in a tent, it will be on view at Art Stage Singapore from 21-24 January 2016 and will show a multimedia art installation on DADA. DADA was initiated in 1916 by a group of Jewish artists who had settled in Zurich after having left Germany and Romania during WWI. Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich was the place where this group of artists started to use abstraction to fight against the social, political, and cultural ideas of that troubled time.

The Embassy of Switzerland is pleased to support the dance production “Doggy Style” by Swiss based choreographer Joshua Monten, which will be part of the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival on 20-21 January 2016. In his performance, non-verbal communication plays an essential role. The spontaneous movements of dogs are transposed onto the dancers’ body and mind and represent the uneasy relationship between the animal and their human companions. With the innovative mixture of dance, sign language, humanity and animality, the choreographer gives the audience an understanding of how fundamentally unequal and yet both rewarding and sustainable this relationship can be. “Doggy Style” is based on the detailed analysis of dogs’ behavior. To make sure, the imitation of their movements is as authentic as possible, real dogs were studied and even invited to participate in the studio rehearsals.
