The Kazakh–German University with the support of the Swiss Government conducted the 6th Olympiad for the students on “Integrated Water Resources Management” in Dushanbe. The event was organized in the Tajik Agrarian University within the Central Asian Blue Peace initiative.

Around 30 students of different Tajik Universities, who are studying natural resources subjects, participated in the Olympiad. The winner will further attend the Regional Olympiad and Summer school in Kazakhstan on August 2019.

For the past five years, the Kazakh-German University annually conducts the Olympiad on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) amongst the students of Central Asian countries, thus contributing to capacity building of future specialists in the region.

During his speech, the rector of the Tajik Agrarian University, Mr. Mahmadyorzoda said: “Tajikistan is a plentiful of water resources and IWRM approach is very relevant for our country. Thanks to such Olympiads, our students and young specialists have a unique opportunity to learn and to use the approach to foster economic growth and sustainable agricultural development”.

IWRM approach, also known as One Water, has been accepted internationally as the way forward for efficient, equitable and sustainable development and management of the world limited water resources and for coping with conflicting demands. Through the Blue Peace initiative launched in 2010, Switzerland is supporting both cross-border cooperation and national platforms for dialogue on water access issues.
