“Sustainable Mountain Art (SMArt)”, a project supported by the SDC, aims to bring attention to the global challenges faced both by mountainous regions in Switzerland and in the countries of the South and East.

Artists whose work addresses global risks in those regions are given the opportunity to work in Switzerland for several months. Their work encourages a change of perspective, initiates a dialogue with the public and provides a platform for an exchange of views on possible solutions to reduce global risks.

The Rwandan photojournalist Cyril Ndegeya has been an artist-in-residence in Monthey since February. His work during his stay in Switzerland is focusing on the theme of water, with a special focus on commonalities between Rwanda and Switzerland.

“La face cachée de l’eau” (The hidden face of water) is an exhibition of Cyril Ndegeya’s own photography and work he has done in collaboration with Fabrice Ebra, a photographer from the Lake Geneva region. The exhibition explores the glacier-to-lake water cycle in the canton of Valais.
