Kader Kouanda, tailor
"When I finished Koranic school, I decided to do an apprenticeship in sewing for my future. But I was told I didn't have the skills needed to talk to clients, read and write. That's why I signed up for the evening literacy class. Now I know how to read, take my clients' measurements and talk to them. I'm pleased with the evening classes."
Kader Kouanda's training is part of the SDC's support for rural nomadic populations and people living in cross-border regions. These people are often excluded from educational systems based on urban and sedentary ways of life. The project seeks to improve herders' integration in society, political life and the economy and offer them alternative occupations to herding.
