Support to International Women’s Right Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW), Phase 2
Despite many advances in the law and policy environment towards recognition of gender equality and new mechanisms for promotion and protection of women’s human rights, women worldwide still experience multiple forms of discrimination. SDC supports the International Women’s Rights Action Watch (IWRAW) Asia Pacific, which is an international non-governmental organisation working nationally, regionally, and internationally towards the achievement of women's human rights.

Background |
Discrimination against women is the most common form of social exclusion worldwide, although non-discrimination of any gender is a human right and has universal validity. Reducing gender inequalities is a precondition for social justice and sustainable development. |

Medium-term outcomes |
IWRAW: Outcome 1 – The CEDAW review process is positioned as an accountability mechanism for gender equality in the SDGs; the CEDAW review process addresses issues of women’s economic rights and business and human rights through recommendations and concluding observations; UNGPs incorporate the equality framework SDC: Outcome 5 - IWRAW organizational capacities are strengthened and its financial sustainability is secured. |
Results |
Expected results: SDC output: Results from previous phases: During the period covered by the previous phase, IWRAW contributed to (1) strengthening the application of CEDAW and WHR standards through a broader actor base at national levels, (2) enhancing access to an expanding knowledge base and advocacy strategies on critical and emerging issues such as Conflict, Gender based Violence, the SDGs, in women’s human rights amongst local actors; (3) influencing global and regional policy and standard setting processes to be supportive of women’s human rights and use a gender equality approach, particularly in the ASEAN region; and (4) developed the space for a potential dialogue between women's rights organisations and private sector around the benefits of the gender equality approach. Efforts to increase the organizational sustainability, and in particular broadening the donor base and core contribution have to be maintained. |
