Asia - Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)

The Asia - Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Division is responsible for SDC programmes in these regions. The SDC focuses on the least developed countries, many of which are deemed fragile and are burdened by conflict or natural disasters.

In response to these challenges, the division's three sections take an integrated approach combining development cooperation and humanitarian aid. Humanitarian aid responds to the immediate and urgent needs of the local people, whereas development cooperation works towards long-term positive change by contributing to the sustainable improvement of people's living conditions in disadvantaged countries.

Together with SECO, the Asia - LAC Division oversees Switzerland's contribution to the Asian Development Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, the main multilateral development institutions in the two regions.

The division is also supported by thematic advisers and a staff office.
