Contexto | Following the profound economic and political reforms initiated in 2011, Myanmar has achieved rapid economic growth and embarked on an ambitious triple transition from i) military rule to civilian government, ii) from centrally planned to market-based economy and iii) from armed conflict to peace. With many regions still in a situation of protracted and often violent conflicts, Myanmar continues to be a fragile state that will require time, firm leadership and strong social cohesion in order to enable a sustainable and inclusive development away from a dual and elite-driven economy. Addressing shortages of human capital with regard to skills gaps and mismatches will be crucial for Myanmar’s transition from a supplier of cheap labour within the South-east Asia region to a modern and inclusive economy of manufactering and services. |
