Italy was hit by a major earthquake on Wednesday, claiming many victims. There are as yet no reports of any Swiss victims. Didier Burkhalter offers Switzerland's support.

Switzerland offers its condolences to the families of the victims of the earthquake that struck central Italy in the early hours of Wednesday. The earthquake struck the centre of the Italian peninsula, some 150km north-east of Rome. The earthquake caused serious damage, dozens of deaths and many more injuries. There are as yet no reports of any Swiss victims.  The head of the FDFA, Didier Burkhalter, has contacted Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, whom he met on Monday in Geneva, to offer Switzerland's support.
