The Consular Directorate (CD) is taking account of the growing mobility of Swiss citizens. It has grouped together its consular services and, as a central contact point, it is able to guarantee an optimal level of public service. It is divided into three divisions:
- The Swiss Citizen Services supports the network of Swiss representations abroad (embassies and consulates), and operates the FDFA HelpLine, the central contact point for all enquiries and information relating to consular services.
- The Delegate for Relations with the Swiss Abroad promotes the interests of Swiss nationals living abroad, and provides them with information on the topic of living abroad.
- The FDFA's Consular Directorate (CD) is the central point of contact for all consular services. The Consular Strategies, Developments and Agreements Division is the competence centre for CD projects. The division seeks to optimise public service delivery for Swiss citizens abroad and for non-Swiss nationals wishing to travel to Switzerland. It develops future-oriented strategies in the consular field. The division also develops instruments for foreign representations, the FDFA in Bern and the Federal Administration to enable them to offer efficient, customer-friendly consular services. It delivers solutions and processes to bring consular services closer to the public. The division works closely with the authorities in Switzerland, the private sector and other countries and exploits synergies through a variety of cooperation agreements.
