State Secretariat

The State Secretariat is responsible for coordinating, maintaining and developing bilateral relations with other states, implementing foreign policy strategy, cooperating with international organisations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and is in charge of peace and security policy.

The State Secretariat coordinates foreign policy activities, excluding European affairs, within the FDFA and between the federal departments. It safeguards Switzerland's foreign policy interests and ensures that a coordinated and strategic approach is applied to bilateral and multilateral relations. Key dossiers include the formulation and implementation of foreign policy strategy; cooperation with priority countries worldwide, the UN and OSCE; ensuring the coherence of sectoral foreign policies; crisis management and peace and security policy.

Krystyna Marty has been serving as state secretary ad interim since 1 January 2020.
