School system

For language-related reasons, public schools are often out of the question for children from Switzerland. Enrolment in an international school is recommended.

Swiss schools

The only international German- and French-language schools in Hong Kong are the German Swiss International School and the Lycée Français International. The prestigious German Swiss International School (GSIS) has a German and an English-speaking 'stream'. The school year begins at the end of August / beginning of September and runs until the end of June. GSIS has 1,260 pupils (approx. 4% are Swiss children) and provides schooling at the kindergarten, primary, and lower/upper secondary levels. The German stream leads to the 'Abitur' (secondary school diploma) in Year 13, the English stream to the International Baccalaureate (IB).

International schools

Hong Kong has 50 international schools catering to approximately 40,000 students. There are often long waiting lists for admission. Some of these schools follow their national school holiday timetables.

Universities

Hong Kong's universities offer courses of study for local and foreign students.
